The youngest children can start go karting at Xtreme Karting is from age 8 through our structured Junior Race School at Xtreme Karting Falkirk.
Family Karting Sessions are available at Falkirk from age 10, while karting at Edinburgh starts from age 12, subject to the relevant minimum height requirement.
If you have been searching for information about karting age limits, go karting for kids, family karting or children’s birthday parties, this guide explains which karting experience is suitable for each age group at our Edinburgh and Falkirk centres.
Age and height requirements are strictly enforced, so please check the requirements for every participant before making a booking.
At Xtreme Karting, children can begin karting from age 8 at our Falkirk
centre. The correct session depends on the child’s age, height and previous
karting experience.
| Karting option | Centre | Age | Minimum height | Who can participate? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Race School | Falkirk | 8–13 | 1.25m | Junior drivers attending structured training |
| Family Karting Sessions | Falkirk | 10+ | 1.27m | Children, teenagers and participating adults |
| Intro Karting Sessions | Edinburgh | 12+ | 1.5m | Teenagers and adults |
| Senior Karting Sessions | Edinburgh and Falkirk | 14+ | Relevant centre requirements apply | Teenagers and adults |
| GP Race Events | Edinburgh and Falkirk | 16+ | Relevant centre requirements apply | Older teenagers and adults |
Every driver must meet the minimum age and height requirement for the session booked. Please do not include younger participants in a booking on the assumption that an exception can be made on arrival.
Participants who appear younger than the required age may be asked to provide proof of age. Drivers under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian aged 18 or over who remains at the centre.
For younger children, the earliest opportunity to start karting is our Junior Race School at Xtreme Karting Falkirk
Race School is designed specifically for children aged 8–13 who meet the minimum height requirement of 1.25m. It provides a structured introduction to karting rather than placing a young beginner directly into a standard open race session.
During Race School, junior drivers can learn:
Race School is ideal for children who are enthusiastic about motorsport but have little or no previous karting experience. Sessions are run by experienced instructors and focus on safety, confidence, enjoyment and skill development.
After successfully completing two separate Race School sessions, eligible drivers can progress into Falkirk Family Karting Sessions (normally age 10+).

Our Family Karting Sessions at Xtreme Karting Falkirk allow children aged 10 and over to enjoy karting with parents, grandparents, older siblings and other family members.
Drivers must be at least 10 years old and at least 1.27m tall. Both requirements are strictly enforced.
Family Sessions are designed for mixed-age and mixed-ability groups. Parents can participate on track with their children, making this one of the best family karting activities in Falkirk.
Children aged 10–13 who originally started through Race School must have successfully completed the required two separate Race School sessions before progressing into Family Sessions.
Family Sessions must include eligible junior participants. Adult-only groups are not permitted in this session format; adults should instead book an appropriate senior or adult karting session.

Karting at our Edinburgh centre starts from age 12. Edinburgh uses senior electric karts and does not currently offer Race School or the age 10+ Family Session format available at Falkirk.
Drivers taking part in an Edinburgh age 12+ karting session must be:
These sessions are not children-only sessions. Eligible teenagers can race alongside parents, other family members and adults, making Edinburgh karting suitable for mixed family groups with children aged 12 or over.
The minimum age and minimum height of 1.5m are both strictly enforced. A child who is 12 but does not meet the height requirement cannot participate.

Drivers aged 14 and over have senior karting options available at both Edinburgh and Falkirk.
Edinburgh offers senior race formats for drivers aged 14+ and adults on its multi-level electric karting circuit. The minimum height is 1.5m.
Falkirk also provides senior karting formats for drivers aged 14+ and adults. These are the appropriate sessions for older teenagers and adult-only groups.
For competitive GP-style race events, drivers must be at least 16 years old. Separate GP options are available at both centres.
Karting age limits are not simply recommendations. They form part of the safety requirements for each kart and session format.
A driver must be physically able to:
Children develop at different rates, which is why both age and height requirements apply. Being tall enough does not override the minimum age, and being old enough does not override the minimum height.
Strictly applying the published limits helps create a safer and more enjoyable experience for your child, other drivers and our race team.

Xtreme Karting offers a clear progression route for young drivers, beginning with structured instruction and leading into family and senior racing formats.
Ages 8–13. Young drivers learn basic kart control, track safety and racing skills with an instructor.
From age 10 and a minimum height of 1.27m. Eligible children can race with parents and family members after completing the required progression where applicable.
From age 12 and a minimum height of 1.5m. Teenagers can race in sessions that also include adults.
From age 14 at Edinburgh and Falkirk, with additional senior karting formats available.
From age 16, drivers can participate in competitive GP-style race events at either centre.
Karting parties are a popular choice for children and teenagers who want an exciting, competitive birthday celebration. The minimum age depends on which Xtreme Karting centre you choose.
Exclusive karting party events at Falkirk are suitable for children aged 10+, mixed-age family groups and adults. Every person racing must meet the published age and height requirements.
A younger sibling or guest cannot take part in the karting element simply because the rest of the party group is old enough.
Parents can participate in the racing, remain as spectators or combine both roles depending on the group.

Exclusive karting party events at Edinburgh are suitable for children aged 12+, teenagers, family groups and adults. Every driver must also meet Edinburgh’s minimum height requirement of 1.5m.
All participants must meet both requirements. Being part of a private party booking does not allow an exception to be made for younger or shorter drivers.
Parents are welcome to join the racing or watch the action from the viewing areas.
Before confirming a children’s karting party, check the age and height of every participant. Age and height limits remain in place for private parties and exclusive track bookings.
Yes. Parents can participate or watch!
Eligible parents and adult family members can join children on track in Falkirk Family Sessions, Edinburgh age 12+ sessions and suitable private party formats.
Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends who do not wish to race are welcome to watch from the spectator viewing areas.
Facilities include:
This means the entire family can enjoy the visit, even when only some members of the group are racing.

To help the day run smoothly:
A hygiene pack is required for every driver racing on track. This includes a balaclava to wear underneath the helmet for comfort and hygiene. Hygiene packs are available to purchase online from £4 and can be kept and reused during future visits, helping to reduce both waste and future cost.
